What led you to counselling?
What led me to counselling was a moment in high school when I read an article about the brain and schizophrenia—it sparked a deep curiosity about how our minds work and how mental health shapes our lives. That initial interest grew into a passion for psychology, driven by a desire to help others navigate emotional challenges and make a meaningful impact in their lives and communities. I have always found psychology fascinating because it offers a window into the deepest workings of the human mind—our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. It’s the perfect blend of science and humanism, and it continues to inspire the way I connect with others and support their healing journeys.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, we have a cat who brings a lot of comfort and personality to our home. We used to have a dog as well, who was a beloved part of our family before passing away. My son also has a snake, an unusual but fascinating companion that’s sparked a lot of curiosity and learning in our household. I’ll never forget the time the snake escaped its enclosure while we had visitors; we were quietly hoping to find it before anyone else did! Each pet has added something unique to our lives.
Favourite things to do?
Some of my favorite things to do—both for joy and self-care—include spending time outdoors, especially walking, hiking, and kayaking, where I feel most connected to nature and myself. I love playing tennis and ping pong for the movement and fun they bring, drawing and making music is another way I recharge and express creativity. I’m always curious and enjoy learning new things, whether through reading, listening, or hands-on exploration. Time with family and friends is deeply nourishing, and I find simple pleasures, like soaking up the sun or grounding with bare feet on the grass, remind me to slow down and stay present.
What do people say your biggest strength is?
One of my biggest strengths is my ability to connect with people in a way that feels natural, safe, and affirming. I’m deeply relatable, which helps clients feel comfortable opening up and trusting the process. I approach each situation with creativity and flexibility, always looking for thoughtful ways to meet people where they are and adapt tools to fit their needs. At the same time, I am dependable! Clients know they can count on me to show up consistently, listen attentively, and follow through with care and professionalism. This combination allows me to build strong, collaborative relationships that support meaningful growth.
Something you’re proud of?
One of the things I’m most proud of is persevering through adversity while pursuing my education. After experiencing a concussion at work, my ability to concentrate, process information, and manage daily tasks was significantly affected. For me, the culmination of my healing journey was earning my master’s degree in counselling. Despite the physical and emotional challenges, I remained committed to my goals, adapting my routines, seeking support, and showing up for myself day after day. That experience taught me resilience, patience, and the power of determination. Graduating with honours wasn’t just an academic milestone, it was a personal triumph that reminded me what’s possible when we keep going, even when the path is difficult. One thing you’ve learned from working with people?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned from working with people is that collaboration consistently leads to better outcomes. When diverse minds come together, they bring unique perspectives, experiences, and creative insights that can spark ideas none of us would have reached on our own. I’ve seen how open dialogue and shared problem-solving not only deepen understanding but also generate more thoughtful, inclusive, and effective solutions. Whether in clinical work, team settings, or community projects, collaboration has shown me that we’re stronger and more innovative when we work together.
What/who inspires you?
I’m deeply inspired by the beauty and complexity of nature, the emotional depth of music, and the transformative power of art. These elements remind me of our capacity to feel, create, and connect beyond words. I’m also inspired by visionary thinkers like Leonardo da Vinci, Nikola Tesla, and Hedy Lamarr, individuals who saw beyond convention and dared to imagine what others couldn’t. Lamarr, known publicly as a glamorous actress, was largely ignored for her groundbreaking invention that laid the foundation for Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. Her brilliance and persistence in the face of dismissal speak to the power of quiet innovation. The legacies of these pioneers fuel my own drive to think creatively, challenge limitations, and aspire to contribute meaningfully to the world around me.
What would you tell a client who is meeting you for the first time?
"Thank you for being here. I know that reaching out for support can take courage, and I want you to know this is a space where you’ll be met with respect, compassion, and curiosity, not judgment. My role is to walk alongside you as we explore what’s important to you, what’s been challenging, and what healing or growth might look like for you." "Today is mostly about getting to know each other. I’ll ask some questions to understand your story, your goals, and what brought you here. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels right. We’ll also talk about how I work—my approach, confidentiality, and what you can expect from our sessions." "This is your space. If something doesn’t feel helpful, or if you have preferences—whether it’s pace, language, or focus—I want to hear that. Therapy works best when it’s collaborative and tailored to you."
Other languages spoken?
I offer counselling services in both English and Spanish to support clients in the language they feel most comfortable expressing themselves. Speaking Spanish allows me to connect more deeply with individuals from diverse backgrounds and provide culturally attuned care. Whether you're navigating personal challenges or seeking support for your family, I’m here to listen and guide you in a way that feels natural and respectful.
