What led you to counselling?

I have always had a deep interest in understanding human emotions and behavior, and throughout my life, I have been drawn to supporting others through challenging times. Witnessing how difficult it can be to navigate personal struggles—whether trauma, relationship issues, or simply feeling “stuck”—inspired me to pursue counseling. I wanted to be in a position to help people regain control, find healing, and rediscover their inner strength. Guiding individuals, couples, and families through painful moments and helping them build emotional resilience is incredibly rewarding to me. Becoming a counselor was not just about wanting to help—it was about creating a safe, transformative space where clients can reconnect with themselves and live more authentic, fulfilling lives.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child, I became acutely aware of the lack of support for mental health, particularly within my cultural background, where mental health was not widely discussed or understood. I saw how difficult it was for people to access help or even talk openly about their struggles, and this fueled a strong desire to advocate for mental health. I wanted to be someone who could create a safe space for others to express themselves, help them navigate their emotional challenges, and raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being. This passion for supporting mental health and advocating for those who feel unheard is what ultimately inspired me to pursue counseling, and it continues to drive my work today.

What do people say your biggest strength is?

My biggest strength as a counselor is my determination and resilience in managing difficult situations. I am able to remain calm under pressure, which helps me focus on finding solutions rather than getting overwhelmed by stress. This ability to stay composed and move directly into problem-solving has been invaluable in my work. I have also been told that I have a calming presence that allows people to feel safe and comfortable with me. My family and friends often describe me as their pillar of comfort and support, which reflects my deep commitment to being there for others during challenging times.

Something you're proud of (challenge you've overcome, etc.)?

One of the challenges I am most proud of overcoming is navigating and pushing past the cultural taboos surrounding mental health that I grew up with. In my cultural background, mental health was often a topic that was not openly discussed or understood, and it took a great deal of courage to confront and move beyond those societal norms. Despite these cultural barriers, I chose to pursue counseling as a career, and over time, I have come to deeply love and value this work. It has been a rewarding journey of not only breaking through cultural stigmas but also learning to embrace and champion mental health as an essential part of overall well-being. My commitment to this field has allowed me to grow personally and professionally, and I am proud to be part of the change in breaking down these barriers for others.

One thing you’ve learned from working with people?

One thing I have learned while working with clients as a counselor is the incredible strength and resilience people possess, even in the face of overwhelming challenges. Every client brings a unique story, and it is always humbling to witness their ability to navigate pain, adversity, and change. This reinforces the belief that healing is a process, often non-linear, and that clients are the experts in their own lives. My role is to guide and support them as they discover their own strength and work towards growth, which has taught me not only to be more compassionate but also to trust in the process of change and transformation.

What would you tell a client who is meeting you for the first time?

If we are meeting for the first time, I would tell you that this is a safe space for you to be yourself, no matter what you are going through. I am here to listen without judgment, and together, we will take things one step at a time at your pace. You do not have to have everything figured out to start—this is your journey, and I am here to support you. Whether you are dealing with something specific or just need someone to talk to, I will work with you to help you feel heard, understood, and empowered to move forward in a way that feels right for you.

What/who inspires you?

The clients I have the privilege of working with are my primary source of inspiration. Their courage, growth, and resilience throughout the counseling process continually impress me. As they explore their own self-awareness and work through their challenges, I find myself learning and evolving alongside them. The therapeutic relationship is a shared journey of discovery, and the insights I gain from my clients not only fuel my passion for this work but also enrich my own personal growth and understanding.

Favourite things to do?

I am a bit of a coupon enthusiast (think TLC Extreme Couponing, but with a more reasonable twist)! I love finding great deals and saving money wherever I can.
I am also into travel hacking — planning adventures to new places, soaking up different cultures, and ticking off items on my travel bucket list is one of my favorite pastimes.
And as much as I love staying busy, I am a huge believer in the power of doing absolutely nothing! In a world that never slows down, I think it is so important to carve out a little time each day to just be—no plans, no pressure, just relaxation.
