Danica Hoff

Hi, I’m Danica. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where individuals and couples can explore challenges, build resilience, and create meaningful change. My approach is collaborative, direct, evidence-based, and grounded in connection and humor. I’m passionate about helping couples strengthen communication, deepen connection, and rebuild trust. I also support those navigating infertility, pregnancy loss, and reproductive health challenges. I enjoy working with first responders and adults with ADHD, offering practical strategies to improve focus, organization, and well-being. My work integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness, informed by my background in yoga. My goal is to help clients navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence, resilience, and connection to their values. When I’m not supporting clients, I enjoy spending time with my kids, staying active, and watching Netflix series.

What led you to counselling?

After navigating my own journey with female health challenges, I noticed a significant lack of support in those areas. I wanted to be the helping hand I wished I had during that time. Additionally, with so many first responders in my life, I felt a deep calling to help those who dedicate themselves to helping others. Counselling allows me to combine my personal experiences and desire to support others, creating a space where I can make a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Favourite book and why?

Currently, "The Colour Monster" is a family favorite. It's been a great tool to help my toddler navigate emotions, and we read it almost every night. I like how the book uses the metaphor of different coloured monsters to represent various feelings, making it an engaging way for young children to explore their emotional landscape. I also love that my toddler has every word memorized and likes to read the story to my partner and me.

What/who inspires you?

My friends, family, and co-workers are my daily inspiration. Witnessing the resilience, compassion, and dedication of the people in my life constantly reminds me of the power of human connection and the transformative impact we can have on one another. Their stories, struggles, and successes inspire me to show up authentically, learn from their experiences, and strive to be the best version of myself.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A horse orthodontist—because I loved horses and wanted to help fix their teeth. When I discovered that wasn't a thing, I embraced my desire to help people instead. My innate drive to make a positive difference in the lives of others has remained constant throughout my life. The desire to help others, in combination with my life experiences led me to the field of counselling.

What is your process for turning a bad day into a good one?

I allow myself to feel all the emotions and then channel my energy into focusing on the potential of the rest of the day. By acknowledging and processing my feelings, I'm then able to move forward and look for opportunities to find joy, gratitude, and growth, even amid challenges. This approach helps me regain a sense of control and shift in a more positive direction.

What do people say your biggest strength is?

My biggest strength is empathy. I'm able to put myself in others' shoes, which helps me better understand their feelings and experiences. This allows me to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for clients, where they feel heard, understood, and supported. By listening and connecting with people, I can provide a safe and nurturing space for them to explore their thoughts and emotions, guiding them towards greater self-awareness and personal growth.

Something you're proud of (challenge you've overcome, etc.)?

Completing my master's program while raising three kids is a milestone that I’m proud of. Balancing motherhood, school, and other responsibilities has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences yet. This experience has not only strengthened my problem-solving abilities but has also deepened my empathy and understanding for the unique challenges that clients may face in their own lives.

One thing you’ve learned from working with people?

I've learned that vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness. When we share our stories, it creates powerful connections that can help us heal. Sharing our stories is also a great reminder that we're all in this together, navigating the ups and downs that life has to offer. By cultivating an environment where clients feel safe to be vulnerable and authentic, I've witnessed the transformative power of open and honest dialogue. This has taught me the importance of fostering trust, empathy, and safety in my work, as it allows individuals to feel comfortable navigating the challenges they're facing.

Favourite things to do?

I love nature walks, being active, and spending quality time with family and friends. I also enjoy travelling when I can! These activities help me maintain a healthy work-life balance and recharge me. Connecting with the nature, staying physically active, and nurturing my relationships are all important aspects of my self-care routine. These activities allow me to stay grounded, gain new perspectives, and approach my work with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

What would you tell a client who is meeting you for the first time?

"Welcome! This is a space where your thoughts and feelings matter, so come as you are; you are more than enough!" I aim to establish a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space. By acknowledging your unique experiences and emphasizing that they are accepted and valued, I hope to put you at ease and encourage an open and collaborative dialogue. My goal is to work together to understand your needs and co-create a plan that empowers you to navigate your challenges and achieve your personal growth objectives.

Do you have any pets?

I have a 4-year-old mini Aussiedoodle named Tater who is a bundle of energy and a mischievous sock thief. He’s loves to cuddle on the couch and he’s happiest when the entire family is together. Tater has a big personality and brings lots of joy, comedic relief, and love to our family.
