What is Social Justice Therapy?

Paying it forward.

A portion of proceeds from every session will go towards someone’s therapy who does not have the means to pay for counselling but who is also striving for self-improvement and change. We continue to promote mental health awareness, challenge stigma, and celebrate individual autonomy in a world where there are too many barriers to health care. If you would like to make a donation to enable someone else to have access to private pay therapy, click the button below and we will ensure that someone who needs imminent support, gets the sessions they need thanks to your generosity.

If you have significant financial difficulties due to extenuating life circumstances or inequalities, please reach out to us today with a brief overview of your needs, and we will be in touch.

A little bit more about

Social Justice Therapy

Words such as culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, and poverty are extremely prevalent in counselling today. Counselling does not exist in a sealed space. Sometimes it can feel like what is happening in the outside world is shut out of the counselling room, but it is not and has never been. Our lives are filled with injustices, economic difficulties, and unforeseeable circumstances. Counselling exists to serve the needs of the people within our communities. As counsellors, we seek to make the world a better place by promoting equality, freedom of choice, and diversity, and we believe everyone should have access to exceptional therapy. Social Justice pursues equality in the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society.

Social Justice Therapy is high quality therapeutic treatment that is provided by registered therapy professionals for people that would not otherwise be able to afford private pay counselling. Often clients wait for years on government funded waitlists, not receiving the quality of care or the frequency of care that they need. Skylark Counselling vows to minimize this gap, by paying specialized counselling professionals full private pay wages, to ensure people who can’t afford treatment, get the therapy they need.
