A little bit more about me

Education?

I completed a Master of Education degree in Counselling Psychology at UBC after completing my Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and minor in Sociology, also from UBC. Since then, I have committed to further trainings in Emotion Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).

What do people say your biggest strength is?

I have been told that I have a calming and genuine presence, and that I can provide comfort in times of chaos and crisis. Past clients have told me they can feel my care for them.

Something you’re proud of (challenge you’ve overcome, etc.)?

I am proud to be an advocate for the things I believe strongly in, such as women’s rights and equality for historically oppressed groups. I feel very proud that I can bring those values into my work with people, and hope to be a source of safety for folks who are struggling within those areas.

One thing you’ve learned from working with people?

The importance of relationships – be it with significant others in one’s life, or with parts of oneself. That you can repair so many traumas by leaning into the hurt parts of yourself with compassion, while having a trusting and safe anchor there to help guide you through it. 

What/who inspires you?

My clients never cease to inspire me; I have worked with youth, adults and couples and with each person I have felt a deep respect and honour to bear witness to those parts of the self that are so intimate and often kept hidden. I am inspired by human connection and how valuable trust is! 

Favorite things to do:

Spending time with loved ones (including my cat), being in nature, cooking, reading and staying active are all things I enjoying doing in my free time. 

What would you tell a client who is meeting you for the first time?

This is your journey; you are in charge and you ultimately hold all the answers you need. I am here to help guide you and provide some structure, but I am not the expert. You are navigating the boat and I am the anchor that can provide moments of pause when the storm comes.

Primary Modalities used:

As many helping professionals, my journey into counselling started with my desire to help those closest to me who were suffering with their mental health. That blossomed into a deep desire to heal through the power of bearing witness. I have been a life-long listener, so this felt like the most natural fit.
