Causes of PTSD
Different types of traumatic events can lead to PTSD, including, but not limited to:
- Abuse (including childhood abuse, domestic abuse, physical abuse or sexual abuse)
- Serious accidents or injuries
- Serious health problems
- Stressful life experiences
- War and conflict
- Natural disaster
- Traumatic childbirth
- Witnessing a traumatic event
- Losing a loved one in a violent or traumatic way
Symptoms of PTSD
- Avoidance Symptoms
- Avoiding places, objects or events that remind you of the trauma
- Avoiding thoughts or feelings related to the trauma
- Re-experiencing Symptoms
- Flashbacks
- Nightmares
- Arousal & Reactivity Symptoms
- Outbursts of anger
- Difficulty sleeping
- Easily startled
- Feeling tense or on-edge
